POP POP POWER MEMORIES

(October 03, 2023) Norman and Margaret Moss reflect…

As a schoolboy I (Norman) was accustomed to an hour’s walk to school each day. However in teenage years I began to cycle to school instead. Then as I entered my early twenties power entered my cycling career.

Someone invented a small kind of outboard engine which could be fitted to bicycles. It worked by connecting to the rubber tyre and so long as there was no rain it was a great success. In wet weather the drive wheel was changed to one made of carborundum, which rapidly tore tyres to pieces.

Pop pop journeys
Nevertheless that little engine transformed my journeys from Barnet to Spurgeon’s College South Norwood, and empowered me on many preaching engagements in my student years.

I am sure electric bikes are more efficient, but I remember my little ‘pop pop’ days with great affection. It was powerful enough for me!

  • Thought: Do you have an energy crisis in your spiritual life? Power is available, but it is personal. God works on your heart, not on your bike.

Meditation
Margaret and I were meditating on Judges 15:14, ‘The Spirit of the Lord came upon him in power.’
We felt the Lord was saying –

‘Be set apart for me. I mean totally set apart to do my will on the earth. Be totally given to me as I am totally given to you. As I loved speaking to my Father while I was on earth, so you, delight yourself in communion with me.

‘It is not enough for my Spirit to come on you at certain times as He came on Samson. For I would have my Spirit remaining on you. Delight yourself in me as I delight myself in you. Live daily in conscious awareness of my presence with you.

‘To overcome evil you need to be loosed from any bondage that has come on you. For my Spirit is the Spirit of freedom. Not freedom to commit sin, but freedom to triumph over sin. Remember that you are in Christ who is greater than Samson. Death hoped to bind me on the cross, but I burst from the bondage of death. The Holy Spirit who came on me at my baptism has also come on you.

‘And the Spirit did not come and go but remained on me so He remains on you. The power you receive is the power to do my Father’s will for you. Those who use this power wisely and well will receive increased anointing.

‘But it is never someone else’s anointing – you are to respond to the Spirit in the way He empowers you to do.
