GOD’S TREASURE FOREVER

(May 04, 2024) Norman and Margaret Moss reflect on receiving the comforting blessing of God’s incredible love…

In January an old mother was left in the passenger seat of the car while the owner popped into a shop to get something. Because the weather was cold the engine was left running to keep the heater going… and the car was unlocked.

Suddenly a bad man who has just been sentenced to more than eight years in prison jumped into the driver’s seat and stole the car including the passenger!

Seeing the car disappearing in the distance, the frantic car owner phoned the police. Asked for further information about the passenger it was explained that the mother was 89, had dementia, and was also blind.

Happy ending
The story has a happy ending because after a car chase through the streets, the police boxed in the stolen car and rescued the old lady unharmed.

Now we can all identify with the feelings of the person whose car was stolen. Even when our loved ones grow old and incapable we still care about them.

Which, as ‘older persons’ ourselves, we find very comforting!

Loved by God
We were meditating on Deuteronomy 14:2, ‘For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the Lord has chosen you to be His treasured possession.’

And we felt the Lord was saying –

‘The love of family is very precious. But you are yet far more precious to me. You have been chosen and my grace has called you. You shall be my treasure forever. Live as believers set apart to be holy. Let the child become like the parent. Do those things which please me. Walk in my light and let my love thrill your heart. All your identity is in me. Without me you are nothing, but in me you are sons and daughters of the living God. For I have prayed that they be one even as the trinity are one.

Loved so greatly
‘This family likeness entitles you to feast in the kingdom of God. For there is a feast. There is an enjoyment of love and joy and peace, of which the world knows nothing. Come celebrate, just as you love to go to meet with your dear ones, to meet with those you love, how much more do I love to be with you. It delights me to hear you say how much you love me, and your love will grow more and more as you understand more fully how greatly you are loved.

‘Know that you are mine – mine forever, mine to be close to me even now – my treasured possession, loved by me, held closely by me. Love my love! It is like none other. It is delightful in its every aspect, wonderful to behold, joyous in its expectation and glorious in all its unfolding.

‘Live continually in my love, which is faithful and true, gladdening in every way and strengthening like nothing else.’

  1. Thanks for this lovely reminder. Only this morning I read Malachi 3:17, ‘They will be my people says the Lord Almighty. On the day when I act they will be my own special treasure.’
