So sorry to hear that you went  through such agonies with your toe (Trusting the Holy Spirit in Painful Times). What a lovely testimony to the gift of tongues. We’re sure that like ourselves you have encountered many people for whom a prayer in tongues was actually a known language. We rate that precious gift very highly! Thank you, Lord. Bless you for all your work and ministry. Norman and Margaret. 

Hi good people, good friends, and good faithful ministers of the Lord… thank you for your precious thoughts. They’ve  led me to post these comments under our Questions category for the benefit of Christians enquiring about the Holy Spirit’s nine manifestional gifts…

Precious Gifts
Yes, speaking in tongues (glossolalia) is indeed a precious gift of the Holy Spirit, our supernatural helper. And Spirit-filled Christians need to realise that this verbal gift is not just ‘worshipping God in unknown languages’ but a powerful tool in times of need such as deceit by the enemy, satanic opposition, pain and even when one doesn’t know what to pray (as Paul tells us in Romans 8:26).

So glad that you too rate this gift so highly. No doubt you too minister in the other eight gifts of the Spirit (1Corinithians 12:8-11).

These gifts can even be used to ‘grab’ an unsaved person’s attention… as with the incident that happened with me the other day as I ventured out for ‘a recuperation breather’ after that toe op. Maureen and I went shopping and on  arrival at the supermarket she asked me to go get a delicatessen dish while she collected other groceries.

Profound Gifts
It was early morning with not many shoppers around, certainly not where I went, and the server was on her own. Very helpful, with a warm smile this unknown-to-me lady completed my purchase promptly and as I thanked her and paid, out-of-the-blue I was led by the Spirit to say, ‘Look. I don’t know what this is about, but the decision you are going to make shortly will be all right, successful. You will overcome the situation.’

Well, she looked at me eyes wide-eyed and beamed, saying with a gulp, ‘Oh, I needed to hear that!’ Then I added, ‘In fact you have overcome situations in the past, particularly a huge one. Each obstacle to be decided on after that was easier and easier to overcome. And you will come through this one too.’

Stunned, she turned away a little and said, ‘You’re going to make me cry. I do need to make a decision.’ I smiled and said, ‘Be encouraged’ adding ‘Now you don’t know me… how did I know about your situation, your past and present?’ She just stared at me, then remarked, ‘I don’t know… but I thank you.’ I replied, ‘God told me so don’t thank me, thank Him.’ And as you guys can image that led to sharing about God.

Powerful Gifts
Interesting how God sets things up to give us opportunities to share His love and bless people both Christian and nonChristian. And at times to move in the Spirit. We just have to be willing… and ready whoever we are, not just ministers! I’ve shared the above in a nutshell: the Holy Spirit had used me with four of His other gifts — the prophetic, words of knowledge and wisdom (v8,9) all exercised in faith (v9).

But hey… you both know what I’m talking about here. I only sharing the above to confirm that I too delight in the Holy Spirit and hold all His manifestation gifts very high, very precious and to be operated by Christians as God arranges opportunities.

May He bless your own ministry in these our senior years, our precious friends.
