(February 06, 2025) Norman and Margaret Moss share another precious meditation…
On the wall of my grandmother’s kitchen there was a large poster advertising Pears’ Soap.
It was a picture of age and poverty. An extremely old couple in poor clothing sitting facing one another across an almost bare table. Yet their wrinkled faces conveyed happiness and love. Between them was a large mixing bowl full of soapy water, and the man was using his clay pipe to blow a large bubble. Other bubbles were floating to the ceiling and the wife was watching him with loving delight.
Toyshops provide better bubble liquid these days and machines can pump them out. But there is still joy to be found in blowing bubbles because of the beauty of their colours and the way they float away on the summer breeze.
But— sadly bubbles burst. They always have and always will.
We enjoy many bubbles in our lives. But our bubbles burst. Sometimes because of the sin or selfishness of others. Sometimes because of our own foolishness. Sometimes without any discernible reason at all.
Our Life’s Bursting Bubbles
- The childhood bubble.
- The family bubble.
- The security bubble.
- The trust bubble.
- The friendship bubble.
- The marriage bubble.
- The peace bubble.
- The prosperity bubble.

Forgive the wretched pun but we need to trust in the Bible not the bubble!
Our Lord’s Biblical Blessings
Scripture describes many blessings that our loving Lord promises His children, including the most important… full salvation for repenting individuals! Our God cares so much for everyone— He wants to help us when life’s bubbles burst!
Margaret and I were meditating on Psalm 5:12, ‘Surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous, you surround them with your favour as with a shield.’
God’s favour! The Hebrew word favour here means delight!
And we felt the Lord was saying—
‘On every side… my favour! So wonderful! Whatever is happening to my people, they need to know that they are surrounded with my favour. Not a chink or gap where my favour is absent! Whatever you are going through, believe with all your heart that you are surrounded (as is every believer) with my favour.
‘Who would not want to be surrounded on every side with the favour of the Lord? Believe this, let it warm your heart, let it release you from all gloom. For the Lord gladdens the heart of every believer as they trust in Him. So trust in the Lord with all your heart and rest in His abiding love.
‘My favour surrounds you with great beauty, but it endures so that even the grave cannot destroy it. No castle is as secure as my favour. No human weapons or armaments can protect you as I do. The body ages, but your soul and spirit are held secure within my strong hands. Your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life. What have you to fear, for I watch over you to protect you.
‘I who created you know very well how to guard each of my beloved children as though they were the only one. I who see each sparrow will not neglect you who are so much more precious. So face the future knowing that I am with you and that the warmth of my love surrounds you. Let nothing make you afraid.’
As we move further into 2025, let’s fearlesssly face the future remembering that ‘God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control’(2Timothy 1:7ESV). His favour surrounds us like a shield!

Amen to all you share in this word of encouragement, which has also reminded me of some words from a song-
ALWAYS THERE FOR ME… when I am lonely, He’s a really true friend and when I’m filled with fear I can feel Him near, always there for me my dear Lord.
He’s always there for me when I’m in pain, reassuring me my prayer is not in vain and when my way is dark and I cannot see, I’m glad that Jesus is always there for me.
