WHEN GOD REPEATS HIMSELF, WE DO WELL TO LISTEN!

Sometimes I feel like a puddle of emotions, but then I remember that a puddle reflects what is above it and at my lowest, I can showcase almighty God on high!

God is Able!
There has been a fantastic song on repeat in my head as I’ve been contemplating my theme this month— God is Able. In fact, the lyrics come from the verse that was on this month’s first Assurance Card

  • The verse says: ‘Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory…’ (Ephesians 3:20-21a).
  • And this is the Maranatha Singers’ song:
    ‘He is able more than able
    To accomplish what concerns me today
    He is able more than able
    To handle anything that comes my way
    He is able more than able
    To do much more than I could ever dream
    He is able more than able
    To make me what He wants me to be.’

Did you catch that? Well no, probably not, because you haven’t had these lyrics looping through your skull like I have! Let me fill you in.

The song takes the verse a step further…

God Wants Me Able
Its last line declares ‘He is able… to make me what He wants me to be.’ It is this wording that has had my attention. In fact, because it has been at the forefront of my thinking, the verse in this past Sunday’s Assurance Card confirmed the idea:

‘And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work’ (2Corinthians 9:8 emphasis mine).

And then, when an old notes page fell from my Bible and I read what I had written there, I knew God was saying something to me! I’ve learned that when God repeats Himself, I’d better listen!

What had I written? I’m so glad you asked! It was about an oft-repeated verse: ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son…’ (Romans 8:28-29a).

My chicken scratch (untidy, difficult-to-read writing) in those old notes said, ‘To conform me to the image of His Son is God’s explanation of the “good” for which He is working all things.’

God Wants All of us Able!
My friends, the whole point of examining the truth that God is able is to give us ammo against the anxiety which plagues us. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, I’m convinced much of our suffering stems from the conflict between what we know to be true and how we live.

God is who He says He is, and He’s for us, and is willing to evidence that He is able. And yet, we continue to fight Him for control of our lives. He can only quiet that storm if we let Him!

He is able more than able to make me what He wants me to be (and you too!). God is able to bless you abundantly, so that… you will abound in every good work. In all things God works for the good of those who love him… to be conformed to the image of His Son.

When God repeats Himself, we do well to listen! Are you—

  • Standing in the way of what God is trying to do in you?
  • Blocking what He is trying to do for you?
  • Resisting what He plans to do with you?
  • Anxious about it?
  • Ignoring God’s direction that it’s time to let go?

Listen to Him and let Him work in your life. God is able and you too can be able!

  1. Yes, HE is able, I know my God is able, I know my God is able to carry me through and demonstrated that for me this morning in some ‘life’ situations in which I was involved.
