DON’T ZIGZAG WITH GOD’S WORD!

October 04, 2024) Norman and Margaret Moss share another precious meditation…

Do you remember waiting for examination results? Year after year Britain’s BBC gives time to the anxiety, agony and ecstasy of the day when the results are posted.

In our day, which was when the Royal Mail was the main source of communication, we were on holiday and I (Norman) was waiting for the letter to arrive which would give the results of my second degree. We lived in a small English town back then and as we looked from the window we could see the postman coming down the street.

Not only did he move slowly, but he would actually pause, look at the address on a letter and go back to the other side of the street to deliver it. So his progress was a zigzag journey.

After a couple of frustrating days, my beloved Margaret rang up a friend in London and asked her to go to the university building where the results were displayed. After all what’s a bridesmaid for? So she kindly set our minds at rest and all was well. She had the word we were waiting for and it was good!

Carry God’s Word in Your Heart
We were meditating on 2Kings 3:12,‘Jehoshaphat said, “The word of the Lord is with him”’ and we felt the Lord was saying—

‘Every true servant of mine carries my word in their heart and mind. My Holy Spirit dwells within you and will speak my words through you.

Just as Elisha needed to quieten his heart and to wait on me for my word, so you need to be in the secret place if you would bring prophetic words in time of need.

‘Do not despise prophecy but heed the words that are spoken either by others or by yourself. Yet weigh all things and walk in humility before me.

To have my word with you is the best thing that you could have. For my word—

  • Brings peace and contentment.
  • Conveys blessings and fruitfulness.
  • Shall be given and those who ask for it.
  • Is altogether the very best that you could ask for.
  • Gives grace and enables those who otherwise would be near to giving up.

‘For my word brings clarity to a situation, it brings understanding and peace for those who are anxious and worried. It brings comfort and solace to those in despair and brings life to those who are in exhaustion.

‘My word is everything and brings increase. Only believe with all your heart and it shall be done — most certainly!’

Dear readers — seek God’s word that will bless the discouraged. Have it in your heart, carry it straight to the needy one and deliver it. And don’t zigzag enroute!

PENTECOSTAL CHURCHES QUERIES

(March 28, 2023) Dr Robert McQuillan shares thoughts on this query…

Dr Robert
It’s been quite some years since we attended a pentecostal church having moved interstate and not finding one in the new city we moved to. Having recently moved again, we found a few in our new home town. But we’ve been surprised to find no one speaking in tongues during the service in any church we visited. I mean, we were always used to free flowing worship and towards the end someone (even up to three) would speak in tongues and someone would bring the interpretation. It was always an encouraging time, even if some challenge came through.

Also, at some point, usually after the announcements, the pastor would ask if anyone had a testimony to share, and usually two or three people would indicate that they had. And it was a time of joy and clapping of hands unto the Lord as people willingly came to the front and testified how God had blessed them in answering prayer.

But we haven’t come across this happening in any of the pentecostal churches we’ve visited. Doesn’t this happen anymore in pentecostal churches? Sarah.

Hi Sarah

I’m sorry to say that I too have noticed this for many, many years in pentecostal churches visited. Nor have I observed pentie pastors sharing prophetic messages or words of knowledge! Altar calls for prayer healing, yes. Sad really as I know the blessing speaking in tongues, followed by interpretation (as in 1 Corinthians 12:10) brought to hearts, as did prophetic words! I can well recall when Maureen and I would be ministering in certain pentecostal churches and would speak words of knowledge over certain people, the congregations rejoiced. But afterwards some pastors would ask in wonder, ‘How did you know (such and such) about “So and So”?’

FINALLY PRESSING THE RIGHT BUTTON

(December 16, 2021) Michael Ashcraft shares a good news story...

Justin Berry, 20, grew up in Ladera Heights (in LA) going to church with his mom and brother.

Going to Lighthouse Christian Academy cemented his childhood faith and it’s also where he met a certain girl named Trina.

A rough year
He excelled in academics and sports during high school and was elated when he got accepted to his dream college: UCLA. He felt a euphoria unlike any other, but as he tried to push the ‘Accept’ button on the electronic offer letter, Justin (at right, in front of UCLA’s mascot) was held back. God had told him to attend college elsewhere.

‘Something was holding my hand back from pressing that button,’ he remembers. ‘I started crying and bawling my eyes out. I wanted to go there. This was my ticket to my career. I was trying to press this button and God wouldn’t let me do it.’

He finally pushed the button. What could go wrong? He had a beautiful girlfriend and an ideal institution of higher learning. God’s blessing was evident. Only not everything was as it seemed. Secretly, he and Trina had fallen into temptation together, and both were feeling intense conviction.
