(January 8, 2024) Mama Lava has her ‘Handle Verse’ for 2024! Do you have yours?

Every December I pray for a word and a verse to hold on to for the coming year. I call such a scripture My Handle Verse and my New Year’s handle verse is One for More in 2024!

* That is to say, I’m one who’s going for more this year – more truth this year – and I trust you are too.

And my word for 2024? It’s John 17:17… ‘Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.’

Truth
These are the words of Jesus. He was asking the Father to set His disciples apart. Now the word ‘sanctify’ has a few meanings in dictionaries, all of them similar… but I have a favourite: ‘free from sin; purify’ (Oxford Dictionary).

The disciples, for whom Jesus prayed, lived in a world that was against them. They faced hatred and hardship because they loved Him and preached the gospel. And Jesus asked God to purify them with truth so they could find solace and protection there. I want the same for me in 2024… and for you who know and love our Saviour.

There are many verses in the Bible about truth… my word for this new year. It’s what I pray for, but my prayer is actually – More truth in 2024, please. 

More Truth!
Let me explain… I not only want to know the truth more… but I also want to know more truth (and trust that you do too). John 8:32 is a great booster – ‘You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’ So is John 14:6, ‘Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”’

My cherished friends, my goal this year is to press into God’s truth. In a world full of deception, lies, and conspiracy, we have a source that we can fully trust – God’s word! Not only is God’s word, the Holy Bible, true, but Jesus is truth personified. Let’s lean in, go for it!
