KEEP YOUR LIGHT BURNING!

(December 02, 2024) Norman and Margaret Moss share another precious meditation…

Throughout my (Norman’s) childhood my grandparent’s house was without electricity. There was an incandescent gas light fitted in the ceiling. Even the early days of my ministry a few of the homes I visited still had oil lamps.

Both of our childhood homes had electricity and ‘Fairy Lights’ always adorned the Christmas tree. However these had their frustrations, because they were so wired that if one lamp went out, they all went out and each had to be tested in turn until the culprit was discovered and replaced. The cheap bulbs (oh the days of ‘Woolworths the local Sixpenny Stores’) seldom lasted more than a few days.

The Light of Life
Oh memories, memories… we hope you find these old ones ‘illuminating.’ But let’s share about the most illuminating light of all— Jesus! He declared in John 8:12 that ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’

This month Christians will be celebrating the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. His illuminating ministry on earth fulfilled Isaiah 9:2— ‘The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.’

But note— Jesus returned to His heavenly Father and we are to keep our lamps burning as we await His return (Luke 12:35).

We were meditating on Revelation 22:16 which says,  ‘I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.’

And we felt the Lord was saying—
‘I am not ashamed to be closely associated with David as the very root of his being… but also as his offspring. I AM also not ashamed to be closely associated with you and in fact with each one of my dear children. I AM and have also many different names. I AM indeed the bright and morning star, able to be seen by many when they look up, seeming so far away and yet so near. I give light in the great darkness of night, for with me there is always light. Light in the darkest places, for with me there is always the beauty of light. Wherever I AM comes a brightness and a lightness. Associate closely with all those who call on me.

‘Who else could say these things? For on the lips of others such words would be empty boastings, but when I declare my majesty I speak ultimate truth and invite the worship due to my name. I am the root of David and before he was I AM. But I AM also the offspring of David and not ashamed to be Israel’s true king. The Morning Star remains when other stars can be seen no longer.

‘But again I speak modestly for the Morning Star like all other celestial mysteries of the universe is my creation, spoken into being by my word. So I am infinitely more than I claim to be. My majesty cannot be expressed in human words, nor can it be encompassed by human understanding. Rejoice in all of this. For you are saved and counted among the redeemed. Your name is in the Book of Life, and you are welcomed to my Father’s house.

‘As one year closes and another begins don’t be sad, but shout for joy and praise me. The future is mine, and therefore yours and all my people can be secure for the new heavens and earth are at hand and you will be part of that glory.’

We sincerely wish our readers a merry Christmas— let’s continually honour our Lord and be His light in darkened times!
