DO YOU HAVE A FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD?

(May 12, 2025) Carol Round asks a relevant and challenging question…

In his book, The Pleasure of His Company: A Journey to Intimate Friendship with God, author and pastor Dutch Sheets opens Chapter 15 with the following statement:

‘I called myself a Christian for seventeen years before I discovered I could have a truly personal relationship with God. Prior to this, I certainly knew Him as God and I definitely knew Him as my Saviour. I didn’t, however, know Him as my Father, and walking with Him as a friend wasn’t even in the field of view.’

I can relate to Sheets’ statement, except I was in my mid-40s. It took a life-changing situation to lead me to the foot of the cross. Yes, I knew of God but didn’t know Him personally, let alone have a friendship with Him.

ARE YOU A STRONG SECURE ‘NINETY-NINER’?

(May 10, 2025) Angeline Selvakumari shares some in-depth reflections…

Greetings to all our extended family members of Echo of His Call Ministries! Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Recently, I misplaced my passport. I searched everywhere but could not find it. It was driving me crazy! I was certain about where I had left it, yet when I went to retrieve it, it was gone. I searched every nook and corner, growing very anxious. The missing passport occupied my thoughts— I couldn’t focus on anything else, whether awake or asleep. More importantly, I needed it urgently. I didn’t have the time to apply for a new one or take a relaxed approach to search for it later.

Then it happened… as I frantically searched my house, I was reminded of Luke 1:3-7’s parable of the lost sheep.

HIDING FROM GOD? HAVEN’T YOU GOT IT YET?

(May 08, 2025) Dr Richard Winter shares a vital challenge…

I’m sure that most know the story of Anne Frank… the young Jewish girl who hid in a secret hiding place in a Dutch house in 1942 hiding from the Nazis during the occupation of the Holland. Two years later Anne was discovered and tragically died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945.

And there’s the fabulous true story told in the book titled The Hiding Place about another Dutch girl, Corrie ten Boom. It tells how Corrie and her family’s courageous act of hiding Jews during the Nazi occupation of Holland in World War II.

Their life was disrupted when the Nazis begin persecuting Jews in Holland, leading Corrie and her family to become part of the Dutch Underground, hiding those in danger. They are eventually captured and sent to concentration camps, where their faith helped them endure the horrific conditions.

LIVE BY GOD’S WORD!

(May 03, 2025) Norman and Margaret Moss share another precious meditation…

We went into a restaurant recently and found our table. On it was an imitation rack for Scrabble letters, the tiles spelling out the word RESERVED.

Our son- in-law who enjoys a game of Scrabble said, ‘That’s wrong.’ Of course we asked why and the reply was ‘You can only have up to seven tiles at a time on your rack.’

Well… it gave us something to meditate on for a few moments.

THE REAL FOCUS OF CHRIST’S RESURRECTION— HOPE FOR YOU!

(April 20, 2025) Wayne Swift calls it as it is, giving us some things to consider…

It’s Resurrection Sunday, Hallelujah!

Easter itself changes year after year based on the first Sunday following a full moon in the northern hemisphere. And most Easter Sundays we consider the complete Easter story.

But… did you ever think about Easter this way— what was the goal or aim of Christ’s sacrifice and His resurrection? Have you ever considered that it has always been the same, that the target, the object, the focus was always refound hope for you!

Christ came and sacrificed His life so that you and I can be reconciled to God by the result of His efforts not our own. As  Matthew 12:21NLT declares ‘… His name will be the hope of all the world.’

YOUNG NAHUATL MAN DATED UNBELIEVER, THEN GOD CHANGED HER HEART

(April 17, 2025) Ed and Denise Aulie share…

Springtime in the Sierra, Mexico is full of life with baby lambs, baby foals, baby chicks and newborn babies in the Náhuatl homes.

We have known Carlos since he was a boy but now he is a young Náhuatl man. He began dating Cristina, a young woman who did not know the Lord. We saw his joy fading and his church attendance become sporadic. One Sunday he stood up to tell us that he was ashamed and convicted that he had caused this young woman to become pregnant. He confessed his sin and asked for forgiveness.

How precious to see each person stand up to talk to him in Náhuatl assuring him of his or her friendship and belief in God working through this situation for him. He was visibly moved with tears in his eyes.

Transformed From Observer to Believer
Carlos and Cristina were married very quietly with little fanfare. In a small room where they were to live, they celebrated their union with a sign with their names on it and balloons. They shared some chicken in broth, home-made tortillas and a small cake.

Cristina, who was not a believer, began coming with Carlos to church. We watched her transform from an observer to a believer. How beautiful to see her eagerly read the word, pray, and truly believe. How dear to see Carlos with his arm around her introducing her as ‘my wife.’ We have seen them grow in their faith and sweet love for each other ever since.

In short order a baby would be coming— a little girl. On Cristina’s birthday we were each asked to give a little devotion for the soon to be born child. To our surprise her formerly hostile, distant family came and listened. They were nodding, smiling and delighted with the word of God that we shared.

What a turn-around! We have often thought of the beautiful scripture ‘A little child shall lead them (Isaiah 11:6) in reference to the influence of children on the faith of adults. This child was already affecting the whole family for good.

Cristina was overwhelmed with emotion. Our hearts sang to see her security in the love of Carlos and the Lord. She recognises that God has blessed her with a man of faith and faithfulness in Christ. Many women in the Sierra cannot say that this is their situation.

Listening Respectively to God’s Word
Only a 15 minute walk from Cristina and Carlos, we visited a profoundly deaf young woman who had her first baby— also a little girl.

This tiny infant was on oxygen from the start. She could not be nursed so they would spoon feed her some formula. They kept her alive for two months with rented cylinders of oxygen used day and night, hoping against hope, until she died.

The heartache was palpable for the young couple and the grandparents.

They do not know the Lord but through hand-signs and visits, they know we care. They too listen respectively to God’s word as we use signs to communicate. May it bear fruit as God has promised.

Younger Generation Seeking Godly Counsel
The younger generation seeks counsel and hope from us. It is a great responsibility and an amazing one to be accepted by another culture in these matters. These relationships take time— lots of time— to nurture. Now when we look at the whole group of young children in this new village, it’s as if we can already see them in a blink of an eye becoming teens and then adults with children of their own.

We feel the clock ticking for them to be exposed to God’s word, to hear about Jesus’ love and sacrifice for them and to know He is real for them this very day. By God’s grace and the Holy Spirit’s leading, their lives are marked by Him. We are conscious of this in every interaction.

Please pray that we would reach these young lives around us and encourage those who already are in young adulthood to listen and heed the words of the Lord.

The need is so great. We are thankful for you and your prayers and your support of us here.

WHAT DOES EASTER MEAN TO YOU?

(April 15, 2025) Robert McQuillan reflects…

My mobile’s daily Bible link reminded me that today is Holy Tuesday of 2025 Holy Week, another day closer to Good Friday and Easter.

Easter Considered
Don’t know about you, but I’ve always considered what is called ‘Easter Weekend’— so-named ‘sorrowful darkness of Good Friday, ‘grey Saturday’ and the joyful brilliance of Easter Sunday’— to be the most important Christian celebration (even more so that glorious Christmas!).

Our website this month contains several precious Easter-centred articles based on what our Saviour achieved for us—

HOPE RENEWED BY JESUS’ RESURRECTION

(April 14, 2025) Angeline Selvakumari shares precious Easter truths…

In the midst of our busy lives and relentless struggles, hope can sometimes feel distant. There are moments when our faith wavers, when doubt clouds our vision, and when we struggle to perceive God’s hand at work.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by uncertainty, take heart— you are not alone.

It’s Easter this weekend— a celebration of renewed hope— a time when despair is transformed into joy through Christ’s resurrection.

Remember the incident of two dismayed disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:13-35? It powerfully illustrates this truth of hope renewed, reminding us that even in our moments of doubt, Jesus walks beside us, ready to rekindle our faith and restore our hope.

Patiently Loving Saviour
Picture those disciples walking along a dusty road, their steps heavy with sorrow and their hearts weighed down by disappointment. They had placed all their hopes in Jesus, believing He was the long-awaited Messiah who would redeem Israel. But now, with His crucifixion fresh in their minds, their dreams lay in ruins.

DRY DESERT TO FLOWING STREAMS DESTINY

(April 13, 2025) Dr Sam Selva Raj recalls God’s goodness…

F. B. Meyer has named Psalm 107:33-43 as The ‘Loving-Kindnesses of the Lord.’

Verse 35 is very meaningful to me— ‘He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs.’ And I share with you another of my precious Pit to Palace experiences, one where God miraculously turned a dry…  ‘desert’… in to ‘pools of water’ for me, my family and our ministry.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS

(April 11, 2025) Brian Bell shares encouragingly on an important issue…

This short meditation is drawn from my reading of Deuteronomy 1:17NLT—

‘When you make decisions, never favour those who are rich; be fair to lowly and great alike. Don’t be afraid of how they will react, for you are judging in the place of God…’

These words of counsel were spoken by Moses to men who had been appointed as leaders to help him lead the children of Israel. In verse 13 we’re told they had been chosen by the people because of their—

  • Wisdom.
  • Understanding.
  • Good reputation.
