HOW TO BACKSLIDE

(September 27, 2025) Dr Richard Winter challenges…

How to backslide?

‘What?’ you’re exclaiming, probably shocked by this title! The reality is that no Christian ever plans on backsliding, yet it happens. Stay with me, readers…

The prophet Jeremiah admitted backsliding happened many times. He wrote in Jeremiah 3:21-22 that although Israel had forgotten God, He was graciously saying ‘Return, faithless people; I will cure you of backsliding.’

The apostle Paul wrote a lot about backsliding… note his warning in Galatians 6:7GWV, ‘Make no mistake about this: You can never make a fool out of God. Whatever you plant is what you’ll harvest.’

Apostasy
Let’s get to the point here—

  • Such activity is committing apostasy!
  • ‘Backsliding’ is actually a theological term for the activity of falling away.
  • It’s a process by which a convert to Christianity reverts to pre-conversion habits.
  • Such lapsing into sin is when a person turns from God to pursue their own desires.
  • And no Christian should do it!

REAL REVIVAL!

(April 22, 2023) S. Sam Selva Raj reflects...

Revival! Over several years we have heard this word widely used regarding refreshing outbreaks of Christianity as Christians find God anew, many new salvations, even healings and miracles.

Recently highlighted was the ‘revival outbreak’ of prayer and worship at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky… experiences of finding of God and His presence afresh – ‘a deeper sense of connection to God and to each other.’ Healings and miracles, thousands of interested visitors even from interstate lining up in the cold weather.

Unfortunately this meaningful ‘revival’ was short-lived… as were similar Holy Spirit outpourings over the years!

Scriptural?
I searched for the word ‘revival’ in scripture, but could not find it. The closest similarity was the ‘reformation’ brought about by young Josiah – 16th king of Judah. Crowned when only eight years-old, described as a righteous ruler, even as a young boy he ‘did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father’ (2 Chronicles 34:2).

Josiah means ‘God supports and heals’ and verses 3-5 tells that when he was but 16, ‘he began to seek the God of his father David.’ Only 20 years old ‘he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of high places, Asherah poles and idols… the altars of the Baals were torn down; he cut to pieces the incense altars…’ Josiah instituted major religious reforms by removing official worship of any god other than Yahweh.

LET’S COME ALIVE WITH INFECTIOUS ENTHUSIASM ABOUT GOD’S LOVE!

(August 26, 2018) Jeff Benson brings a challenge…

There’s a lot to love about being part of one’s church community!

One of the things that I enjoy the most is engaging with people who have only recently come to faith in Jesus. One example is a particular young lady who gave her life to Jesus about 14 weeks ago… it’s been really exciting to see her come alive through experiencing God at work in her life.

Discovering God’s love is infectious!
As she’s come to understand God’s love for her and has been sensing his voice and guidance, she’s come alive with an enthusiasm that’s actually quite infectious. Here’s a snippet of something she posted on Facebook recently (She’s allowed me to use it):

‘Through the blood of Jesus Christ we have been saved, we’re free of sin and justified by faith! So many blessings have been just poured over me since I came to faith and it’s so overwhelming at times but I am so thankful because of how much my life has changed! God shined so much light into my life and knowing that I have a God who loves me so much, who is always there and has the best plans for my life is just so amazing.’

Note how much this new Christian used the word ‘so’: So many blessings, so overwhelming, so thankful, so much light, loves me so much, so amazing! (more…)
