(November 14, 2016) Missionary statesman Dr George Forbes reminds us of the reality of this promise…
This often quoted statement by a famous missionary has inspired many to see the divine possibilities in every situation. God is on schedule with his plan for planet Earth. The prospects for completion of the task of world evangelisation have never been better.
- God promised Abraham that through him all nations on earth would be blessed.
- He promised Jesus that he would give him the nations for an inheritance and the ends of the earth for his possession.
- He declared that all the ends of the earth would remember and turn to the Lord and all the families of the nations would worship before him.
- He promised that he would pour out his Spirit on all flesh and that whoever called on the name of the Lord would be saved.
The Bible is full of God’s promises
Especially regarding his purpose and plan to gather to himself a people from every tribe, tongue, nation and ethnic group in the world.
There is overwhelming and irrefutable evidence that this is happening now. Despite unbelief, rampant sin and complex worldwide human problems, God is fulfilling his promises!
The prospects in Russia, China, India, Iran, Libya, Vietnam and in every country, are as bright as the promises of God – even here in Australia!
We can rejoice, we can praise God. We can live in hope, act in faith, and demonstrate God’s love to our world. That brings me to my point…
Prospects, promises and possibilities call for decisions
We are called out of darkness into light, out of unbelief into relationship with God through Christ. We are called to serve him, called to be his witnesses, called to missions!
God’s promises need to be believed. They need to be acted on. Abraham heard God’s promises and obeyed his commands. He did what God required of him. Without Abraham’s obedience there would have been no fulfilment. Abraham’s faith and obedience are still bearing fruit.
Let’s take hold afresh of the command and promise of Jesus to his church to go and make disciples of all nations and that he will be with us to the ends of the earth and to the end of the ages.
May we boldly declare today that ‘The prospects before the church, obedient to the Great Commission, are as bright as the promises of God!
