WORDS OF LIFE (#2) – MERCY

Jim McClure
(September 17 , 2016)
Dr Jim McClure, respected theologian, continues his series on some scripture words…

The Hebrew and Greek words of scripture are like inexhaustible mines and one finds new treasures each time the words are examined. This month, for number 2 in this series, I have selected ‘mercy’ and sought to open up this word up to reveal just some of the amazing truths and treasures it contains.

The Quality of Mercy racham
In the Old Testament, especially in the KJV, the word ‘mercy’ is frequently used to translate the Hebrew word, chesed.  We could define chesed as the sure and steadfast covenant love of God for his people (however this is a word that we shall explore more full in a later study).  ‘Mercy,’ therefore is a most inadequate translation of chesed. DOES GOD STILL HEAL MIRACULOUSLY TODAY?

Mark Ellis new(September 14, 2016) Mark Ellis shares yet another good news report …

Jesus demonstrated he is the Son of God (and he is God) by performing powerful miracles throughout his ministry. I don’t know of any other religious figure that could walk on water, command the wind and the waves, heal people born blind, feed 5,000 with a few loaves and fishes, and raise the dead.

The miracles testified to Jesus’ authority, that he was the promised Messiah. The miracles fulfilled the prophecies about him in the Old Testament. He also healed because of his compassion and he healed in response to faith. (more…)

MISSIONARY KIDS – A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN!

Erica Grace(September 14, 2016) Erica Grace, ex-missionary to South America, challenges us to understand and appreciate ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’ of a missionary kid’s life.

The enthusiastic Sunday school teacher asked the class: ‘Who wants to be a missionary when they grow up?’

Ugh! Not me!’ I muttered under my breath.

You see, I was already a missionary kid (MK for short) and couldn’t see what all the hype was about being a missionary! At that time all I could see were the bad things.

The bad
Most MKs’ lives are full of constant upheaval. (more…)

CHRISTIAN TROGLODYTES?

Jim McClure(September 12, 2016) Dr Jim McClure, esteemed theologian, shares on a current issue…

Green Senator, Janet Rice, on an ABC radio programme called me a troglodyte. Not specifically me, of course, but all who hold my conviction that marriage is between a man and a woman.

What is a troglodyte? One dictionary gives this definition:
1. Prehistoric cave dweller
2. Person of degraded, primitive, or brutal character
3. Person living in seclusion
4. Person unacquainted with affairs of the world
5. Animal living underground.

The reason behind such vitriol is not only to challenge any and all disagreement of homosexual relationships and lifestyles, but particularly to silence all opposing views and values. (more…)

HANNAH’S SECRET

Maureen McQuillan(September 9, 2016) Maureen McQuillan encourages those heavy with heartache…

Something that I keep coming across is this…at some point even Christians, guys or gals, need a breakthrough in laying everything before God, knowing that he has heard their cry, knows the pain they’re carrying…and to then let go and fully trust him. (more…)

‘…AND A KIND WORD’

dr-robert-and-maureen-092016(September 9, 2016) Robert and Maureen McQuillan drop a hint …

Mentioning in a July Facebook that we’d just celebrated our 55th wedding anniversary, we received many congratulations from not only friends but also from strangers!

Non-Christians, even some Christians, we shared with about our celebration were very surprised. In some instances it was a case of jaw dropping and eyes opening wide, and comments of ‘Gosh…these days that’s a record.’

Naturally we were pleased. We knew the major reason behind our many years together – what we call the BMTBlessed Marriage Triangle…God is the head at the apex and we’re at each corner of the base. He continually reaches down to each of us, connecting with us and ensuring we’re firmly connected with each other and with him. (more…)

GOD MOVES AMONG UNREACHED IN INDIA, FREEING MANY FROM DEMONS, HEALING THE SICK

Mark Ellis new
August 27, 2016 – Mark Ellis shares another reachout good news …

The ethnic Bhuiya are one of the most unreached people groups in India, with less than one-tenth of one percent of the tribe professing Christianity – until this year – when the gospel reached 35 of their villages, freeing many from the grip of the evil one. (more…)

GOD’S WRINGER — AND SPIRITUAL PARENTS

Dr Robert & Maureen 0816August 28, 2016 – Robert and Maureen McQuillan share some recent experiences…

We often receive requests for prayer, mentoring and counselling. Emails, mobiles, SMS and Skype are great tools the Holy Spirit uses!

Or we find he sets up God appointments  — ‘God-incidents’   — not always within a local church’s ‘sacred’ four walls but ‘out there’ where ordinary people live, work and relax. We’ve always claimed that ‘out there’ is the real marketplace of mission activity.

But then we see mission activity worldwide not only as opportunities to witness Jesus as Saviour but as one who cares for the hurting, misunderstood, disillusioned, disappointed and the sick. Ordinary people, Christian and non-Christian, need caring, understanding, unselfish love and an arm thrown around them! (more…)

Fresh biblical insights on a most important relationship

Jim McClureJim McClure, B.A, M.T.S, Ph.D, opens his new book, Love, Marriage, Divorce and Remarriage, with an intriguing quote by Martin Luther: ‘Let the wife make the husband glad to come home,  and let him make her sorry to see him leave.’

Dr Jim is a highly respected theologian with wide experience in researching scripture and explaining the depths of the meaning of Hebrew and Greek words. His Teaching articles such as this month’s https://connectingwithyou.net/2016/08/06/words-of-life-august-6-2016/ bring revelation and understanding to those desiring deeper knowledge on aspects of God’s word.
