(December 14, 2020) Norman and Margaret Moss share this encouraging Christmas meditation…

Such is the power of inspired scripture that when Charles Jennens gave the libretto of the Messiah to Handel, the composer was so moved and inspired that in 24 days he had completed the oratorio!

Handel said of the Hallelujah Chorus, ‘I did think I did see all heaven before me, and the great God himself.’

Victory lies in scriptureHoly Scripture can do that – and more! We were meditating on Isaiah 9:6…

‘For to us a child is born,to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’

Victory lies in Christ
Proverbs 21:31 came to mind: ‘Victory rests with the Lord’ and we felt the Lord was saying-

• Where you have little understanding, I am the Wonderful Counsellor.
• Where you have only feeble ability, I am the Mighty God.
• Where you are mortal and frail, I am the Everlasting Father.
• Where you live in a world torn by conflict, I am the Prince of Peace.

Victory lies in Calvary
We felt the Lord went on to say that…

• There victory is truly mine, not won on a battlefield but on a cross.
• There evil was defeated.
• There, where I humbled myself, and bore the agonies of torture, even to shameful death.
• There I overcame my enemy and lifted you up from the place of shame you deserved, to sit with me in the heavenly places, and in the place of rule and authority.

Victory lies in love
That the Lord was also encouraging…

• For in my grace, I have come to you, to remain forever yours as you are mine. All your need is supplied in me.  Lift your head then, as you lift your heart to me, for in my name, you shall overcome.
• Indeed victory rests with me. For I shall never be overcome, though men killed my body yet in that a door was opened that all might be saved. Love my government, my ways and my thoughts.
• Love my counsel, my fathering, my peace which shall never end.

 

Our encouragement, dear readers, is to rejoice in our victory in God over all things.
