ENCOURAGING

Dr Robert & Maureen (2)Robert and Maureen McQuillan encourage readers…with some more encouragements:

Encouragement! We all need to hear from time to time words that inspire us. Life is life and throws challenging curves at us (even the best of people) that can easily throw us if we’re not trusting the Lord.

One great advantage Christians have – beyond committing every potential upset to Jesus, is to have good friends with whom we confidently trust to share things and seek their counsel and prayer support and encouragement. (more…)

MESOTHELIOMA HEALING MIRACLE FROM GOD

Mark Ellis
Mark Ellis shares an amazing story of God’s miraculous power …

Leon Freitag thought he had a stubborn case of bronchitis, but when he couldn’t make it up a staircase without stopping to catch his breath, he knew something wasn’t right.

‘My wife Diane said to go to a doctor and he discovered I had mesothelioma,’ says the superintendent of the North Dakota district of the Assemblies of God Church. (more…)

FAITH AND DOUBT

Dr Robert & Maureen (2)
Robert and Maureen McQuillan raise a relevant nitty-gritty point:

Two interesting words – faith and doubt…they come up again and again in scripture, church life, conversations between Christians. And they’re used in a number of ways in sermons, especially ones intent on challenging where we really are as ‘faithful non-doubting’ followers of Jesus.

Both are action words – faith speaks of positive action, doubt of negative activity.

In general chatting with some Christians or in counselling, one can so easily wonder ‘Where are they at? Where are they coming from? They don’t seem to be able to really trust Jesus let alone his word. With all this negativity, where is their faith?’ (more…)

Dan WoodingDan Wooding, ASSIST Ministries, brings a good news report…

Jeanette Chaffee on a plane 17,000 feet up was jolted awake by what felt like a gunshot inches from her head. The plane lurched wildly. Shrapnel flew, and smoke surrounded her. Cables dangled near the now-open ceiling. Oxygen masks dropped. She yanked at her mask, but it would not budge.

WHAT POWER STANDS BEHIND YOU?

Robert and Maureen McQuillan ask some relevant questions:

Amazing photo, isn’t it? Cunard’s Captain Kevin Oprey standing on the bulbous bow (what helps stabilise movement) of the Queen Mary 2, the world’s largest ocean liner, Photographer James Morgan took several photographs to mark the ocean liner’s tenth anniversary and Australia’s Daily Mail ran with the caption, ‘Welcome aboard my little boat.’

A MATTER OF FAITH — FINDING HOPE IN A BROKEN WORLD

Carol Round
Carol Round shares on Proverbs 23:18 (NIRV), ‘There really is hope for you tomorrow. So your hope will not be cut off.’

How often do you hear the term ‘the good ole days?’

What does that expression mean to you? For me, born in 1953, it refers to the following: the front doors of our homes – and many times the back door – left unlocked. (more…)

JESUS REALLY UNDERSTANDS OUR TRIALS

Carol RoundInspirational author Carol Round brings Easter encouragements

‘Jesus and his disciples came to a place called Gethsemane. Jesus said to them, “Sit here while I pray.” He took Peter, James, and John along with him. He began to feel despair and was anxious. He said to them, “I’m very sad. It’s as if I’m dying. Stay here and keep alert”’ (Mark 14:32-34 CEB). (more…)

JESUS LOVES DOUBTERS!

Brian Nixon

Brian Nixon, Special to ASSIST News Service, writes…

In her book Doubt: A History, Jennifer Michael Hecht wrote, ‘Socrates counts among those great minds who actually cultivated doubt in the name of truth.’[1]

This seems like a contradiction: Doubt in the name of truth? If something is true, it is beyond doubt; facts are facts, right? And yet, everyone doubts at some point. But what if that doubt could lead you to discover a greater truth about God? Could doubt and truth have something in common? (more…)

LORD…WHERE ARE YOU?

Geraldine Brandt

Geraldine Brandt reflects on a so-called weakness and shares encouragingly…

‘Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Saviour and my God … Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me … Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?’

Psalm 42 excerpts – cries from the heart of David, calling on God in the midst of despair. We can picture his state of depression. (more…)
