GENDER IDENTITY ISSUES NEED ADDRESSING

Becky Fischer
Becky Fischer urges pastoral and parental awareness …

The first time eight-year-old ‘Diana’ (name has been changed) walked into my children’s ministry she was literally wearing a boy’s brown three-piece suit. I was later told by friends, who knew the family, it was boy’s clothing down to the underwear. Her parents had recently been born again and immediately became faithful church attenders.

Week after week Diana consistently dressed much the same. I would overhear her telling the other kids she wanted to be a boy, and was going to get a sex change operation when she got older. I had no idea what to do with this child. She got saved, and seemed to be engaged in our services. (more…)

HOMOSEXUALITY – A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE

Jim McClureDr Jim McClure, noted theologian, with genuine concern highlights an important and timely subject:

As the issues of ‘gay marriage’ and ‘LGBT rights’ are occupying so much news media space, homosexuality and its associated sexual abnormalities are actively promoted in movies and television shows, and celebrities, sports personalities and politicians are rushing to show how broadminded, compassionate and ‘up to date’ they are. Some Christians are being made to feel that perhaps they too should jump on this bandwagon.

But should they? Has the Christian position that has held fast for 2000 years been wrong? Is it time for a ‘Christianity makeover’ that will bring it more into the 21st century and be more relevant to these days? (more…)

CONNECT

Dr-Robert-&-Maureen-McQuillan_PhotoRobert and Maureen McQuillan concernedly challenge:

A little while back we felt to quietly and unannounced visit for the first time a church claimed by many to be great, growing and full of life and love. Filled with anticipation and expectation we slipped in, sitting only three rows from the platform some 15 minutes prior to the service starting.

Admittedly we had been welcomed, although rather shyly by a young person in the foyer, but not one of the several people chatting nearby or were in the front aisle or even passed us by came over to welcome these two strangers. Nor did any those who finally seated themselves around us as the service started. (more…)

LEADERSHIP

TRUTH AND ERROR – A MAJOR LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE TODAY
Tim Jack
Tim Jack
reminds leaders that Paul’s visit to the city of Athens was eventful – to say the least – and points out that…

Athens, at that time, was a centre for religious and philosophical diversity. A centre of major international connections, Athens was a place where ideas were shared, philosophies were promoted and religion flourished. (more…)

CONNUBIAL DISCOMBOBULATION

Andrew Corbett

Andrew Corbett shares important unknown facts about marriage and love:

As connubial means ‘of or relating to the married state’ and discombobulation ‘a fun, fancy word for confuse’ this is a good title for this article!

Personally I never thought that I would ever marry. But to my pleasant surprise, I did. And in what would otherwise have been quite an unremarkable life, I have since married dozens of women! But not just women – I have also married dozens of men. (more…)

THE VALUE OF MISSIONS TEAMS

George Forbes 2010

Missionary statesman Dr George Forbes shares some mission gems:

Much has been said and written about mission teams over the last few years. Twenty five years ago they were a new phenomenon arousing both positive and negative responses on the mission fields of the world.

Literally hundreds of teams and thousands of young people and older team members were suddenly appearing on the horizon of missions’ activity. (more…)

SPRING CLEANING!

Jim McClure

Dr Jim McClure, noted theologian, challenges…

The prophet Jeremiah encountered major rejection to his ministry. The people of Judah had chosen to follow other gods, to listen to and follow false teaching and to reject the ‘spring of living water’ whose only source was God. And God said, ‘My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water’ (Jeremiah 2:13, emphasis mine).
